Edu Robinson on his maiden Euro 4 performance: "I impressed myself"
Edu Robinson scored a rookie podium in his maiden weekend in Euro 4 with US Racing. A feat that the Spanish-British driver was happy with after a chaotic weekend in Austria.
Up until mid-September, Robinson had been racing in the Italian F4 championship for minnows AS Motorsport, scoring a best result of fourteenth in the third race at Paul Ricard.
Speaking of the Slovenian team, Robinson said: "[They] are like a family to me, they're very nice and always try their best."
"They might be a small team but I think they're good and their car definitely had top 20 potential."
As the Red Bull Ring round of the 2024 Euro 4 season approached, it was announced that Robinson would drive for US Racing for the Austrian round (and as it would later turn out, the rest of the season).
After getting to grips with the new team during the two practice sessions, Robinson qualified in fourth position for race one, ninth for race two and tenth for the third race.
Despite qualifying in the top 10 for all three races, the Spanish-British driver had a difficult time in the first two races.
In race one, Robinson had a slow start and fell to twenty-first at the flag. Race two saw the US Racing driver run as high as seventh in wet conditions but, after a mistake in turn three in the closing stages, he fell to twenty-first as the race ended.
Race three was much better for the 15-year-old driver as, despite losing a few positions at the start, he went from eleventh to seventh in a few laps, only being overtaken by the Prema Racing car of Tomass Štolcermanis towards the end of the race.
Despite the overtake in the closing stages, Robinson scored his maiden rookie podium, finishing third among the rookies in the field, behind Alex Powell and the aforementioned Štolcermanis.
Speaking of the weekend, he said: "In qualifying, I impressed myself, I think I also impressed everyone."
"Both races were in mixed conditions, the first race was ok, but I made a few silly mistakes that I shouldn't have made, so I went down [many positions]. The second race was good until I made another mistake so I went down [a lot of positions] again."
"The third race was dry and we knew we had speed in the dry so I just kept calm. "I made a few mistakes in the opening laps but then [after the safety car restart] I kept overtaking cars one by one and towards the end, I lost a position but I got a rookie podium so I'm happy with it."
Following this, Robinson competed in the Monza round of the Euro 4 championship and the Barcelona round of the Italian F4 championship with the same team, where he once again put on brilliant qualifying displays, with a fourth in the second round of qualifying at Monza being his most notable result.
When asked about his future plans, he said: "I'd like to continue with US Racing for next year but I'm not sure yet. I'd like to do the Italian championship again and try and win it"
